What a Day, such a Day...It's a Day to Die pretty. Not a cloud in the sky over New York City. And in a dream I see thousands of people falling out of the sky. 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi, 4... and in my dreams I hear voices of children calling out in the night...Crying out...for Me. It's only a Dream. It doesn't mean a thing. I reach out, but...You're not here. Oh me, Oh my...what a Day to Die pretty! There's secrets in your keep, behind the wall of sleep. The moon will guide your way. Oh Hell! What a Day. It's your Day to Die pretty. That's a dark, dark cloud over New York City! And like some Dream, I see airplanes, and buildings come crashing down! And like some Dreamer - I see Angels of Fire reign-down from On High! - Rain down....Yeah Yeah Yeah! Lie, lie-lie. Lie lie lie, Lie. Lie . Lie! I know it's just a Dream, and I'm Over-reacting! But the lights' out, and I don't see a Thing! - It's only a Dream. It doesn't mean a thing. I'm so glad you're Here.

I'm Leaving... Going Far-away. I'm Dreaming... Going Far-away. This time...I'll be Far-away! Ashes are always a reason.
4.
Yes God...It's me. I hear you are banning me from Heaven. Dare to defy, and accuse you of devouring your Children. I'm not going away! You said the Lamb and the Lion would lay-down together. All I see is red, and chaos, death..and Strange Weather! "We're not going-away!" You tell me King - Where is your Queen? Is she a'sleeping? Did you seize control, and take over the show while she lay Dreaming? It's not Going-away!
5.
The sound of rain...and scent of flowers - conspire again...to steal my power. Still - I recall...with a sigh - Those were days. Those were days...of lifting our hearts to the sky - cupping hands, filed with time. Filled with Time. Those were days...in our lives. Starless...Stainless - this absence of Light. A candle in a window...burning through the night. Angel-face, a demon in the choir - those were days. Those were days - in our lives. So, Keep for the rain... a sigh, and make your peace with the Night. The sound of rain, and scent of flowers...on Esplanade, under a Starless Sky.

Riding into town, you feel like nothing ever changes - but something pulls you back again...and you can't find the strength to stay away. Walking in the rain, you know she never thinks about you - but you don't want to hear what day it is...'cause you didn't have the sense to stay away. Crashing on the rocks, you'll curse the day you saw her waiting - but she only did what a siren does...and you should'a had the sense to look away. Down the Neon Mile, another Silver-lining Halo - You pull-up a chair, and throw back a few...and wait for this town to blow-away! (Storm - Instrumental Bridge) Arriving into town, you see that nothing really changes - but luck will bring you back again...and you can't find the strength to pull away. walking through that door, you know will only lead to sorrow - You promise to do what your friends say...You just turn-around, and walk away. Walk away! Walk away from the one who stole your love - 'cause that little girl - she don't love you anymore...You better stay away from The Door! Turn-away! Turn-away! Yeah...Yeah! She will only bring you misery! - You gotta turn-around - walk away! ...It's the only way your head will ever be free! - Ya gotta turn-around, and walk away!

I was saved by the Belle again - and it's the last time, my friend...'cause I ain't seen any changes, and I've done spent all my pocket change - down to the last dime. I was saved by the Belle again - now that's the last time my friend...'cause I ain't seen any changes, and I've done spent all that pocket change - down to the last dime. She has a dark-side...this lovely stranger. Love her now, 'cause you're going to hate her - sooner or later. I see the dark eyes of a traitor! Leave her now, 'cause you'll so come to hate her...sooner or later! I was saved by the Belle again - but it's the last time, my friend...'cause I won't make any changes - and I have done drink all that pocket change... down to the Last Dime...

Night is falling, and the Fear is rising, but don't...let it take you away. Love is coming to take you higher. Don't push it away. Won't you be my friend? You could be my Angel. I won't be here again, but...I could be your Freedom. The Rain is falling, and the river is writhing...Don't let it take you away. Love is going to take you higher...Don't push it away! (Bridge) Won't you be my friend? I could be an angel. I won't come back, again... but you could be my Freedom! The Rain is falling, and the fever is rising, but...don't let it take you away! Love is coming to take us higher! - Don't push it away! (Pause) Love is coming to take you Higher. Don't...throw it away...

No One here feels sorry for you - 'cause you did this all to yourself. Somebody tried to tell you (tell you...) but you stayed on the slow-train to hell! And now your sky is folding...over fields so grey. I hear the wind - and it's calling your name. Sounds to me like...Judgement Day.

about

My Songwriter Project is called: The DISQUIET, after the Prose-Poem/Novel [The Book of Disquiet] - by the Portuguese writer - Fernando Pessoa. Dreamless Sleep, Sleepless Dream is also a Pessoa reference - "In Dreams, I can accomplish anything." This is a collection of impressions from many of the places I have lived: NYC, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Lisbon, Barcelona, Istanbul, Mexico City, San Francisco, and Portland, Oregon.

The brilliant NYC Guitarist, Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Gods and Monsters, Captain Beefheart) has written about the album: "Music of astonishing scope and color that goes beyond mere categories like "prog" or "art-rock" to stake out its own claim to musical excellence. Mark Darnell Marquez sings in a supple baritone against lush and inventive soundscapes that could be the music playing in the glass and steel dream homes of a post-apocalyptic city built anew after the Last World War. Fans of King Crimson, Genesis, Blade Runner, Scott Walker, Bowie, Phillip K. Dick et al will eat up this neo-noir moody science fiction masterpiece."
